The GRISO organizes in Trujillo the international congress "Venenos y triacas. Epidemics, crises and remedies in the viceregal Indies".

The meeting, with 16 speakers from 7 countries, was held at partnershipwith the Obra Pía de los Pizarro Foundation and the Universidad del Pacífico (Peru).

On 21 and 22 April, the Palacio de los Barrantes-Cervantes in Trujillo (Cáceres) hosted the internationalcongress"Venenos y triacas. Epidemics, crises and remedies in the viceregal Indies", co-organised by the groupde researchSiglo de Oro (GRISO), the Obra Pía de los Pizarro Foundation and the projectprograms of study Indianos (PEI) of the Universidad del Pacífico (Lima, Peru). The opening ceremony was chaired by Ignacio Arellano, director of the GRISO; Hernando de Orellana-Pizarro, president of board of trusteesof the Fundación Obra Pía de los Pizarro; and Martina Vinatea of the Universidad del Pacífico.

Sixteen papers were read at meeting, corresponding to researchers from Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Spain, the United States, Mexico and Peru. The GRISO was represented by Ignacio Arellano, who spoke on "Political crises in medical metaphors in the Hispanic Baroque"; Carlos Mata, who gave the paper discussion paper""What name has Fame given / to that treacherous disease? Antropofagia mapuche vs. ingenio español en Arauco domado de Lope de Vega"; and Jesús M. Usunáriz, whose exhibitiondealt with "Remedios entre dos mundos: magia, superstición, medicina y fe ante el parto en las Indias (siglos XVI y XVII)" (Remedies between two worlds: magic, superstition, medicine and faith in childbirth in the Indies (16th and 17th centuries).

The academic sessions of the congresswere completed with the presentationof the collection "Library ServicesIndiana" of the publishing houseIberoamericana / Vervuert, at positionby Anne Wigger, and of the section "programs of studyIndianos" of the collection "Batihoja" of the high schoolde programs of studyAuriseculares (IDEA), by Carlos Mata. A guided tour of the main places of cultural interest in Trujillo also took place at visit.
