A group of four students from the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra attended the congress "Integrated Health Care: Essential Aspects" organized by the Basque Health Service in San Sebastian. At the event, they presented their work "Smartphones and diabetes: An increasingly near future".
As one of the students, Diego Casado, explains, "we wanted to be part of congress because we found it attractive to meet medical professionals and the opportunity to delve into medical topics other than the usual ones". The other members of the team were Edurne Muruzabal Huarte, Borja Nava Hurtado de Sarachoand Pablo Rivera Pérez de Rada, all sixth-year students.
His poster was intended to explain the need for physicians to be interested in and use new technologies. "This achieves a closer attention and patient care." In their study they tried to answer fundamental questions such as: Are the technologies effective in treating diabetes? How should the applications be designed? What problems do they entail? How much do they cost? During its elaboration, they counted with the help of professors Francisco Errasti and Estefanía Toledo at financial aid . Next year they plan to participate in the congress de Familia held in March.
The congress was attended by professionals from the medical and other fields, as well as other students from the University of Navarra and different academic centers.
