Secondary school statistics to analyze lock-in and soccer
The Luis Amigó and IES Sarriguren BHI centers have won the regional phase of the Survey and Experiment Incubator Competition organized by the University of Navarra, the UPNA (National University of Navarra) and the Statistics Institute of Navarra.

This is the work with which the 3rd year ESO students from Luis Amigó high school won the regional phase of the Survey and Experiment Incubator Competition recently organized by the data Science and Artificial Intelligence Institute (DATAI) of the University of Navarra, the Navarra Statistics Institute (NASTAT) and the department of Statistics of the Public University of Navarra (UPNA). group , led by Professor Javier Elizalde , used statistical tools to analyze the degree program . The object of the project was focused on the Objectives of development Sustainable 4 ( Education quality) and 8 ( work decent and economic growth). The team members are: Lucía Fernández Landaluce, Sonia Dimuleasa, Inés Apesteguía Casimiro, Nicolás Nuin Catena and Agustín San Miguel Gutiérrez.
In the 1st and 2nd year ESO category, the winning center was the IES Sarriguren BHI , with a project : Football: observation and technology, a proposal that unites sport and data analysis from a approach innovative. The team was led by Unai Olano Yurrita and Irune Sancet Acedo and comprised of second-year secondary school students Axular Imaz, Mikel Merino, and Enaitz Valencia . Both will represent Navarra in the national phase of the competition which will be held in Logroño from June 25 to 27.
Statistics not only allows us to interpret the world, but also to transform it. This was the message conveyed to the participants in the competition, which aims to promote critical thinking and data analysis among high school students.
In addition to the winners, students from the Jesuitinas Pamplona, Escolapios Tafalla, FEC Vedruna Pamplona, IES Mendillorri BHI and IES Benjamín de Tudela centers also presented their works, addressing topics such as expense juvenile, the Education musical, the impact of investments on Olympic success or the relationship between sunspots and climate.
The jury was composed of José Antonio Moler (Tornamira), Sandra Eraso (NASTAT), César Berrade (INE), Jaione Abaurrea (UPNA) and José Luis Poveda (DATAI), who especially valued the approach scientist, the presentation of results and the connection with the SDGs.
The event was attended by institutional representatives from the field educational , university and technological. The Vice President of Students of the University of Navarra, Rosalía Baena , highlighted “the importance of developing skills in statistics from an early age, in a world increasingly guided by data ”. He was accompanied by Pablo Cebrían ( director of NASTAT), César Berrade (INE delegate in Navarra), Juan Serrano ( department of Education of the Government of Navarra) and Mikel Azkona ( director Sendaviva commercial).
