Carmen Tabuenca, 5th year student of the double Degree of Chemistry+ Biochemistry , has been awarded in the seventh edition of the WONNOW awards held each year by CaixaBank and Microsoft. The Navarre student has been recognized as the best academic transcript and best professional career, staff and social, and has been awarded with a cash prize of 10,000 euros and access to a Microsoft mentoring program.
The WONNOW awards recognize female excellence in Degrees university STEM -Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics-, with the goal to promote diversity and contribute to reduce the gender gap in these sectors. In its seventh edition, to which 1,078 nominations have been submitted, they have awarded the 16 best students of Degrees university scientific and technical students in Spain.
In addition to Tabuenca, the other 15 selected students will also have access to a Microsoft mentoring program and will work for six months in core topic areas of the technology teams of group CaixaBank.
Gonzalo Gortázar, CEO of CaixaBank, explained that "this initiative has the goal to recognize and reward the talent of women who opt for careers in science and technology, some programs of study that are increasingly important to address the global challenges of our society, but in which the female presence is still low". In this sense, the CEO of CaixaBank thanked the winners for the example they set for girls and teenagers to become interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to continue advancing in equal opportunities.
