The places have run out in February, haven't they?
Last year they were occupied in April, and the two previous years in May. The fact that they were occupied in February is a record. We are not surprised, on the other hand, due to the high demand that exists at this time.
What do you think is the reason for this large increase in demand?
This is due to several factors:
On the one hand, because it is a area that has experienced exponential growth in recent years. Mental health is a very important topic , which is of concern and about which more and more people are showing interest. This makes the degree program of Psychology more demanded.
The Master's Degree in General Health Psychology (MPGS) is an enabling Master's Degree to work as a general health psychologist in the private sector.
The difficulty that exists at the moment to obtain a place from spanish psychology residency program and work in the public sector, since thousands of people take the exam for approximately 140 places (not even 2% get it) and that makes many people opt for the MPGS.
What are the differential elements offered by the MPGS at the University of Navarra?
There are three reasons that I consider important:
Professors. 80% of them are professionals who work outside the university, they have their own offices and that enriches the experience internship of student along the Master's Degree.
Internship agreements. Not only in Pamplona, but also in the rest of Spain: Madrid, Bilbao, San Sebastián, Logroño, Castellón, among others. All of them in leading and prestigious centers.
The good positioning in the rankings and the high indexes of employment rate (more than 90% in this Master's Degree) puts in value the Master's Degree, and differentiates us from the rest.
What is the student body of the MPGS like?
They are students with very good records. What we look for in the process of Admissions Office and with the interviews is that they are good professionals. At final, that they are and end up becoming that psychologist that you would like to go to enquiry.
Due to the enabling nature of the Master's Degree, the profile of the student is of recent graduates, although every year the percentage of students who have spent 3 or 4 years preparing for the spanish psychology residency program , but who, not having obtained a place , decide to study the Master's Degree, is growing.
What percentage of MPGS students are from Degree at the University of Navarra?
Every year we have between 30% or 40% of our students. I think it is very good and normal that our students from Degree want to study abroad, and students from Degree from other universities come to study Master's Degree with us. This enriches the Master's Degree classes a lot. Between 60% and 70% are students who have studied degree program Psychology at other universities in Spain and want to have the experience of what it is like to study at the University of Navarra.
What aid does the University offer to study the MPGS?
The University of Navarra has its own scholarships to study master's degrees (Banco Santander Scholarships, Scholarships of Excellence, etc.) and has a tool which is the cost and scholarship calculator,. This tool studies in a personalized way the economic and family status of each student candidate in order to help them in the best possible way. The University invests a lot of time and effort so that money is not an impediment when it comes to studying at the University.
What would you say to a future student who is considering doing the MPGS at the University of Navarra?
I would tell him that this is a stage that he will enjoy and in which he will apply everything he has learned so far. It will also be demanding and he will have to work hard.
