"Being a philosopher today can be heroic".
Act of licentiate degree of the XXVII promotion of the School Ecclesiastical of Philosophy
Last Friday, May 27th took place in the classroom 1 of the School of Ecclesiastical Studies the graduation ceremony of the programs of study of licentiate degree of the XXVII graduating class of the School Ecclesiastic of Philosophy. In his speech Sergio Sánchez-Migallón, Dean of the School, congratulated the students for having joined "the honorable guild of philosophers - a truly honorable and even heroic guild - of those who philosophize and those who teach and arouse the Philosophy in others". And he reminded them of "the urgent need to make people think; to restore their confidence in reason; to help them transcend merely pragmatic, sophistic and deceitful discourses". He assured that the new graduates have ahead of them "an exciting task and a responsibility of service to the Church and to the whole society".
He ended by recalling some words of Professor Ángel Luis González, who passed away just a month ago. In the last class of each course he said: "from now on, each one of you will take a very different path from the rest, in very different places, but know that, wherever you are, you will always have a home here. And he added: and please, be what you are, but don't be fideists".
Adam Solomiewicz, delegate of the graduating class, said that the expectations they had when they arrived at the University of Navarra "to learn a lot and good Philosophy" had been fulfilled.
