Roser Ferrer defends her thesis

27 | 06 | 2023

On June 20, our PhD student, Roser Ferrer defended her doctoralthesis , entitled "The generation of inferences during reading comprehension in bilinguals". The goal of her research is to study whether bilinguals process written material differently from monolinguals.

His interest in this field stems from his own life experience as a bilingual growing up in a place where only one language was spoken language, and from his interest in language subjects during the degree program. The main challenge he faced? That the collection of data coincided with the coronavirus pandemic. However, he was able to overcome the problem with online interviews and get a large enough sample to demonstrate that it is a topic that deserves attention.

The study corroborates that there are differences between how monolinguals and bilinguals comprehend a text. With this work, in the words of the doctoral student herself, "we contribute our grain of sand to the study of reading comprehension in bilinguals".

Many congratulations, Roser, for your great work, we are very happy!
