Juan José Garcés (PhD'22) has received the award Fundación Pfizer de Innovación científica para jóvenes investigadores in the category of research clinical. The young researcher has been awarded for his study of non-invasive techniques for the diagnosis of multiple myeloma carried out at the Cima University of Navarra and published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

"Using next-generation flow cytometry, we have studied how circulating tumor cells leaving the bone marrow into the blood are associated with the prognosis of patients with this hematologic cancer subject . Specifically, we have shown that there is a direct correlation between their issue and worse survival fees ," said Dr. Garcés, who is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York (USA).

For Dr. Garcés, this recognition is "an incentive to continue working at the service of patients and the finishing touch to the work of many people over many years".

Innovation in health

The Scientific Innovation Awards for Young Researchers of the Pfizer Foundation are aimed at Spanish researchers up to 40 years of age, whose work has been published in scientific journals and who have demonstrated the innovative use of technologies for the development of the knowledge scientific in the field of human health.

In addition to the category of research Clinical, this call recognizes the category of research Basic, which in this edition went to Adrià Cañellas, researcher at IRB Barcelona, for his work on the efficacy of immunotherapy in residual disease in colon cancer.
