The Science Museum of the University of Navarra joins this year's Biomarathon 2021 with three citizen science activities. The Biomarathon will be held this year from April 30 to May 3 and during these days citizens will be able to photograph or record audio recordings of living beings in Pamplona and its metropolitan area area , and upload them to the iNaturalist platform, where the observations of the participants will be recorded. These photographs will be identified between May 4 and 9 and, one day later, the results will be published on presentation .

The activities organized by the Science Museum of the University of Navarra will begin on Friday, April 30, at 12:00 and 16:00 hours, with Enrique Baquero, researcher of Biodiversity and Environment Institute of the University of Navarra, who will conduct a search for insects and other arthropods to explain to attendees both their characteristics and the importance they have for the environment.

"We want to educate people, through these activities, about caring for the environment, and make them aware of the importance of knowing our biodiversity in order to protect it," says Baquero.

On Friday 30, Saturday 1 and Sunday 2, David Galicia, researcher of high school, will make an identification of micromammals at 9:00 am. In this activity we will learn about the diversity of this animal group and we will be able to observe some animals, such as mice, shrews or voles, among others.

And on Friday 30, a fish census will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the Sadar River, at position of researcher Rafael Miranda, in order to observe the diversity of freshwater fish - invasiveand native - present in the river.

Anyone wishing to register for these three activities organized by the Science Museum of the University of Navarra can do so through the Biomarathon website(www.terrabiota.org).

The Biomarathon(City Nature Challenge) is a citizen science activity - promoted by the California Academy of Sciences and the Natural Science Museum of Los Angeles County - in which more than 300 cities in 40 countries are participating.

Terrabiota is the entity that coordinates the event in Pamplona, with the participation of other institutions such as the Science Museum University of Navarra, Public University of Navarra, Aranzadi Science Society, association Muérdago, Mancoeduca, Pamplona City Council, Muskari Rastros and GBIF Spain.
