The School of Theology of the University of Navarra has published Art and Theologya document coordinated by Professor Fermín Labarga which includes the conference proceedings of the XXXIV Symposium of Theology held in October 2015. The Symposium was intended to have a clearly interdisciplinary character, with a simple and fundamental structure at the same time, which would allow the confluence of theoretical and practical perspectives.

The aim was to offer the appropriate space for a fruitful dialogue between artists and theologians, as desired by the Church and highlighted by the Second Vatican Council. This same desire has been reiterated by successive popes: Paul VI, John Paul II (Letter to Artists), Benedict XVI and Pope Francis, who, in his apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium, has encouraged the Church to pay "special attention to the path of beauty in undertaking the new evangelization". The Pope invited all her leaders, including Christian theologians and artists, to deepen this via pulchritudinis so that "all expressions of true beauty can be recognized as a path that financial aid leads to an encounter with the Lord Jesus" (no. 167).
