1st World Pharmacists' Day to advocate for the safe use of medicines
On September 25, the first edition of the World Pharmacists' Day was held with the support of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra.
The first edition of World Pharmacists' Day, promoted by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) with the goal to disseminate the work of pharmacists among professionals in the sector and society in general, was supported in Spain by committee General de Colegios Oficiales de Farmacéuticos and the Sociedad Española de Farmacia Industrial y Galénica (SEFIG), chaired by Juan Manuel Irache, professor at School of Pharmacy at the University of Navarra.
Among the objectives of FIP are the homogenization of Education in Pharmacy worldwide and purpose to ensure universal access to medicines. The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), through work of individuals, groups of work, and organizations, develops and implements different projects and programs with significant global impact related to pharmacy internship, pharmaceutical sciences and community health.
Currently, examples of ongoing projects include "Pharmabridge" and "Good Pharmaceutical Practices", dedicated to strengthening pharmaceutical services and Education in Pharmacy in developing countries development. Others, such as "Patient Safety", seek ways to minimize the pain and danger of medicines in patients. "Counterfeit Medicines, on the other hand, aims to ensure patient safety through the active participation of pharmacists in the identification and elimination of counterfeit medicines.
The first edition of World Pharmacists' Day focused on safety in the use of medicines and the central role of the pharmacist in this field.
