Amelia Fontán, director of the School of Nursing at the University of Navarra between 1972 and 1978, has died in Pamplona after a long illness. She combined the teaching in this academic center with the direction of Nursing at the University of Navarra. Clínica Universidad de Navarra.

Born in Jerez de la Frontera, she studied nursing at the University of Granada, where she was a disciple of Dr. Eduardo Ortiz de Landázuri. In 1962 she arrived in Pamplona as a professor at the School of Nursing of the University of Navarra and combined her work at professor with various management positions. From 1965 she worked in Pavilion F of the Hospital de Navarra directing the practices of the nursing students of the University of Navarra. In 1971, after the start-up of the Clínica Universidad de NavarraIn 1971, once the hospital was up and running, she was appointed head nurse, the name given at that time to the position of Director of Nursing. In 1972 she was appointed director of the School of Nursing and combined these two managerial tasks until 1978.

In her work professor and assistance, Amelia Fontán promoted several initiatives for promote the development of the nursing profession. Likewise, she always stood out for her great professionalism, her good work, her kindness and her way of treating people, especially the sick.
