The University of Navarra has received a student from the REPU (Research Experience for Peruvian Undergraduates) program to develop part of his research in the department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the School of Pharmacy.
Manuel Emilio Otero, a senior student of Chemistry at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), will study various techniques to evaluate the toxic effects of food contaminants. Specifically, techniques that can be applied to better understand the mechanism of toxic action of ochratoxin A, a microtoxin that occurs naturally in some foods for human consumption, such as cereals and wine.
The REPU program is aimed at Peruvian students from Degree so that they can live a research experience in North American universities, generally, and is completed with a seminar at Yale University in which students must present their experiences to the rest of the group. The quotation will be held on March 10.
"Manuel's case is a novelty, as he becomes the first student to carry out the stay at a Spanish university," comments Ariane Vettorazzi, professor manager. "If the experience goes well, they would like to extend the network REPU to our country," she concludes.
The stay of this researcher has been made possible thanks to Myra Flores, a student of doctorate at the University of Navarra, who acts as contact REPU in Spain.
