Seventh Annual European Academy of Religion congress

At the Seventh Annual congress of the European Academy of Religion, held in Palermo (Sicily), Professors Mercedes Montero and Inmaculada Alva chaired a panel graduate "Education, Culture and Civic Action of Catholic Women (XIX-XX)".

The Seventh Annual congress of the European Academy of Religion was held in Palermo (Sicily). On this occasion, the central topic of the congress was "Paradigm Shifts". Professors and researchers Mercedes Montero and Inmaculada Alva chaired a panel graduate "Education, Culture and Civic Action of Catholic Women (XIX-XX)", with the participation of academics from various Spanish and European universities, including Oxford, PUSC, Alcalá de Henares, UNED and the University of Navarra.

Montero offered a discussion paper on the training of university women and the rupture of the national-Catholic paradigm in Spain during Franco's regime, highlighting the significant changes in the Education and the social participation of women. For her part, Professor Alva focused on the arrival of Opus Dei women in the United States in 1950 and how the dynamism of American Catholic women influenced them.

This congress has been an interesting written request to make known to the international academic community the achievements of research of project Gender, perceptions and expansion of Opus Dei in Franco's Spain, allowing the exchange of ideas and fostering future collaborations.
