The CRYF of the University of Navarra participates in an international project on science and religion in Latin America.

Conducted by the University of Oxford, it is funded by the John Templeton Foundation.

The group of research "Science, Reason and Faith" (CRYF) of the University of Navarra participates in the internationalproject "Science and Religion in Latin America". This initiative is carried out by the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion, at the University of Oxford, in association with the British Council and academic institutions in Argentina, Mexico and Brazil, and has the financial support of the John Templeton Foundation. In Europe, in addition to the CRYF, other centers in Spain and Italy are involved.

The initiative seeks to "understand and document the research on topics related to science and religion in Latin America, a region experiencing rapid academic and economic growth. The goal is also to stimulate new intellectual research , encourage Education on science and religion-related topics and promote the international partnership ," according to its directors, Ignacio Silva and Andrew Pinsent of the Iam Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion.

Conferences, publications and essay competitions

The project includes various activities to promote research in this field and the creation of institutional ties between European and Latin American universities. The international congress "Towards a new dialogue between science and religion", the first of three planned, will be held at the Autonomous University of Mexico from October 19-21, 2011. The other two will be held in Brazil (2012) and Oxford (2013).

The Companion to Science and Religion will also be translated into Spanish and Portuguese and a new volume will be published at position by Latin American researchers. In addition, two essay contests will be organized for junior and senior scholars, respectively.

"We hope to achieve a more prominent position for the field of science and religion in the university teaching , promote a greater participation of Latin American academia in the international discussion and contribute to a well-informed public understanding of contemporary science and religion issues," explain Professors Silva and Pinsent.
