Emotional culture and identity

Ana Marta González attended in Barcelona the last experts meeting of the Social Trends Institute, which was held from January 8 to 10 under the degree scroll 'Understanding Modern Humanitarianism: Conditions, Consequences and Critical Concerns.'.

 

Rocio Davis presented the paper 'Emotions, Belonging, and the Location of Exile in Memoirs by Edward Said, Jean Said Makdisi and Najla Said' at the 130th Annual Convention of the Modern Languages Association (Vancouver, Canada. January 8-11).

 

Public discourse

Inés Olza presented on January 28 the communication 'Gesto y sintaxis del speech' at the XLIV Simposio Internacional de la Sociedad Española de Lingüística (CSIC, Madrid, 27-30 January 2015).

 

Cristóbal Pagán has started to participate in January in the History of Distributed Cognition seminars, which include forums in which the researchers of this international project talk. Jan Zienkowski participated in the winter school 'Doing research on academic, educational and intellectual discourses', which was held from 20 to 23 January 2015 in Valencia. The activity was organized by the ERC DISCONEX project and by the department of Sociology and Sociology Anthropology of the University of Valencia. During the event he gave the workshop 'Linguistic pragmatics and the (re-) articulation of a public discussion: a pragmatic case study of Black Pete in the Netherlands'.

Ramón González presented the paper 'Verbos de opinión y verbos de reacción débil: sintaxis y speech' at the XLIV Symposium of the Spanish Society of Linguistics (SEL), which took place in Madrid from January 27 to 30.

Javier Sánchez Cañizares gave the online session 'Is Quantum Physics Relevant for the Mind-Brain Problem?' on January 8 at the framework of the International Conference on Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Consciousness. Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally, Koovappally P.O. Kottayam Dt., Kerala (India), January 6-9. 

Religion and Civil Society

David Thunder offered the discussion paper 'Understanding Humanitarianism' at the last experts meeting of Social Trends Institute, which was held from January 8 to 10 in Barcelona under the degree scroll 'Understanding Modern Humanitarianism: Conditions, Consequences and Critical Concerns'.

Navarra Center for International Development

Luis Ravina traveled to South Africa from January 14 to 26 to meet with local stakeholders, organizations and universities. The goal of the stay was to strengthen relations with the country for the purpose of research.

 

Alex Armand participated in the 3rd Workshop on Impact Evaluation on Transparency and Accountability Sector, held at the International Development Centre (London, UK). He also made a visit of research to department of Economics of University College London.
