A new academic year begins at the University of Navarra with the traditional workshop Welcome Reception for new students and their families. The quotation began yesterday at 10 a.m. at the sports center of the University with the greeting of the president María Iraburu and with the intervention of some professors of the academic center -AlfonsoSánchez-Tabernero, Asunción de la Iglesia, José Hermida, Manuel Martín Algarra and Raquel Cascales- who have transmitted to the assistants some keys for the beginning of the course . Afterwards, the students were able to learn about other experiences offered by the University of Navarra for fill in their training such as languages, sports, volunteer activities, scientific and cultural activities.

The Science Museum of the University of Navarra has not missed one more year to this quotation and has made the attendees experiences of knowledge dissemination on biology, Chemistry, physics and microbiology. At the Biology table, some didactic boxes with insects were shown and microscopic observations of samples were made. In addition, some concepts related to animals were explained: insect size, structural color, symbiosis, pests, invasive species and diversity.

The Chemistry section has shown thermosensitive substances and materials - thermochromic materials, where a color change is observed at different temperatures - and photosensitive ones - fluorescence, phosphorescence, and photochromic pigments, which change color when exposed to ultraviolet light.

At the Microbiology table, examples of microorganisms found in our daily lives were explained: in a drop of water, in the palm of the hand, in the mouth, on the cell phone screen, etc. The students were able to see some samples on a screen and under a microscope.

Through Physics, the basic principles of the operation of Contactless cards were explained, which are used for various actions in everyday life, such as opening garbage containers, paying for the city bus, entering business or making a payment with card. To explain the operation of an RFID card and the reader with electromagnetic wave field, two tuning forks and sound waves have been employee .

The Science Museum has taken advantage of this event to inform about some of the activities planned for this new course, such as the exhibition "Insects. Todo lo que cuentan" that will remain at the Sciences Building of the University of Navarra from October 18 to November 28.
