More than 200 people have participated in the cycle "The work in its context", organized by the Chair of Heritage and Navarrese Art of the University of Navarra. The conference were closed with a session dedicated to the most emblematic monuments of Pamplona in which attendees toured the sculptures of the city center.

Javier Azanza, professor of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the academic center, guided the participants on the tour, from the monument to the Encierro, the statue of Carlos III or the monument to the Fueros, until reaching the place of San Francisco, where the statue of the saint stands. The goal was to make an approach to the characteristic features, history, theme or iconography of these sculptures.

"The commemorative monument constitutes one of the main artistic manifestations in Navarre during the 20th and 21st centuries. To its aesthetic and formal value is added its ideological component, which turns them into a talking element that carries in itself the political, social or cultural load of the moment in which it was erected," said the professor.

This session closed a cycle that began last May 8 and that has counted with the sponsorship of the Government of Navarra. During four sessions, more than 200 people have known closely the most emblematic works of art preserved in Pamplona, such as the organ of the church of Santo Domingo, by Raúl del Toro; the parish of San Cernin, at position by Clara Fernández Ladreda; or the altarpieces of the convent of the Recoletas, in a talk given by Ricardo Fernández Gracia.
