Bishop Carlos Escribano, Bishop of Calahorra and La Calzada-Logroño, is committed to bringing evangelization to young people through screens, as he stated at the University of Navarra. His words were part of a session in which he spoke together with Monsignor Mumbiela, Bishop of the Holy Trinity in Almaty (Kazakhstan), and president of the Episcopal lecture of that country. Both prelates participated in the Synod of Bishops that concluded on Sunday, October 29 in Rome.

Bishop Carlos Escribano explained that during the preparation of the synod, while meeting with several young people at a Eucharistic celebration, he himself thought of this pastoral challenge when he saw that before them there were two panes of glass, that of the monstrance and that of their cell phone: "The problem is that God is not relevant on the screen of their phone and we are not able to enter into their world".

He also affirmed that the synod itself has proposed a change of paradigm when it comes to evangelization, not so much through Departments but through projects that embrace the whole dimension of young people, so that they may reach the experience of a full life.

He emphasized that this synod is spoken of as the synod of abuses "and yet, people have not left because of abuses but because of the lack of evangelization paths". He also recalled that it is the African and Asian Churches that have the greatest number of young people issue . He referred to a Christian youth association in Vietnam that has 700,000 members and compared it with the Spanish status : "the Church in Spain does not have 700,000 young people".

The synod, an energizing element of the Church

Mumbiela said that he had experienced the synod as a manifestation of the holiness of the Church, which serves and gives its life for young people. And he asked, taking into account the varied polyphony of experiences that were presented, "to what extent is the Holy Spirit leading us to do something new? We must study a lot of theology, have a broad outlook and continue to deepen. We must go deep into the richness of the Gospel. The Church in going out to which Pope Francis refers".

The Bishop of Almaty stressed that the synod is a dynamic element of the Church and that it would be inappropriate to conclude that the document is the fruit of the synod: "What is important is the context, not the text. What we lived there and what the Holy Spirit transmitted to each one of us to pass on afterwards".
