The municipality of Allo, in partnership with the Chair of language and Basque Culture of the University of Navarra, pays tribute to José Ramón Macua.

The book "Estudio etnográfico de Allo", an unpublished monograph by the historian who passed away in 2017, was presented at the event.


The Chair of language and Basque Culture of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra, in partnership with the Etniker groups and the City Council of Allo, has organized a cultural workshop in tribute to José Ramón Macua, historian and ethnographer who died in 2017. Sponsored by the Government of Navarra, it was held last Monday, October 30, at the town's public Library Services .

The workshop, chaired by its mayoress, Susana Castenera, began with the reading of a biographical sketch at position by Mª Amor Beguiristain, professor emeritus of the University of Navarra, and Javier Macua, brother of the honoree.

Then, David Mariezkurrena, Naiara Ardanaz and Pablo Orduna, members of the groups of research Etniker, presented the book "Ethnographic study of Allo", an unpublished monograph of researcher, published by the publishing house Lamiñarra. The work gathers the application in Allo of the ethnographic survey proposal in his day by José Miguel Barandiaran and that serves as model for the elaboration of the "Ethnographic Atlas of Vasconia", in which Macua also participated.

The tribute ended with a session on the emblazoned houses of Allo, at position by Mª Elba Ochoa Larraona, local researcher and doctor in Art History.
