More than 100 obese people from Navarra have improved their health with the per diem expenses RESMENA (Reduction of Metabolic Syndrome in Navarra) designed at the department of Food Science and Physiology of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra. This is a new personalized nutritional proposal based on following the Mediterraneanpatron saint with moderate consumption of proteins, antioxidant foods and low glycemic index.

The new per diem expenses comes from a project of research led by professors Marian Zulet and Alfredo Martínez, also members of high school of research Sanitaria de Navarra (IdiSNA) and research center Biomedica en network-Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y la Nutrición (CIBERobn).

The research, financed by the department of Health of the Government of Navarra and by the university itself, compared the dietary indications of the association American Heart Association (world reference) with the per diem expenses RESMENA. With both proposals, the participants showed an overall improvement in their nutritional status, but the per diem expenses RESMENA also provided greater benefits in their body composition (reduction of abdominal fat) and a reduction in their glucose levels.

Part of these results come from Rocío de la Iglesia 's thesis entitled 'Effects of a new dietary strategy in the treatment of the Metabolic Syndrome: The RESMENA diet'. According to the new doctor, "these results are very encouraging for people with obesity and associated complications, as it is an effective alternative to combine with other healthy eating patterns".
