The most chameleon-like genre

How has reality TV evolved since "Big Brother"?
-Reality TV was born long before "Big Brother". What this program did was to reinvent the format by adding the contest component. Although this reinvention affects all television genres, it is perhaps most noticeable in reality TV, which is the most chameleon-like of them all.

Which programs are most successful today?
-In the current television trend, reality shows with a "coaching" (self-help) element predominate. These are programs that have a positive aspect, as opposed to the traditional reality show, which has been associated with a more negative image of television. There is also a proliferation of celebrity shows, travel shows, or those with a solidarity component.

Why is this format so successful?
- Although being a reality show does not guarantee success, they predominate on channels around the world because the audience identifies with the participants (someone like me goes on TV and succeeds). Some of them also have a morbid component, which provides a good data share. For this reason, TV stations often put them before other programs with a more public service vocation.

Are morbid or whiter reality shows preferred?
-The general trend is that darker reality shows get higher ratings, but worsen the image of the channel. The whiter ones, such as self-help or travel, are very interesting from a target point of view, since they have a loyal audience, which is also very attractive from an advertising point of view, since it is generally an audience with a high economic and socio-cultural level.
