Francis, pontiff of peace
visit Francis is going to Colombia with a message of peace and reconciliation on his 20th trip issue . He is the third Pope to visit Colombia after Paul VI (1968) and John Paul II (1986). He will be welcomed by four cities. Bogota, capital of the country and cardinal seat. Villavicencio, of great ecological value and gateway of entrance to a region especially affected by the armed conflict now in the process of resolution, after the agreement of November 12. Medellín, noted for its ecclesiastical presence and as a symbol of drug trafficking. Cartagena, which holds the remains of St. Peter Claver, whose report is linked to the history of slavery, and has a large Afro-Colombian presence.
In his video message, the Pope explains the motto of visit: "Let us take the first step". He refers to the peace that is so hard to achieve work . He augurs "a stable, lasting peace, to see and treat each other as brothers and sisters, never as enemies". And he underlines its foundation: "Peace reminds us that we are all children of the same Father who loves and consoles us".
Already in his programmatic exhortation on "the joy of evangelizing" (2013), Francis pointed out that peace cannot be reduced to an absence of violence, especially if it is imposed by a few to the detriment of the poorest and weakest; or to an absence of war, in an unstable equilibrium. True peace cannot be a merely negotiated peace, but only a fruit of the integraldevelopment of all.
And he quoted some words of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith: "Spiritual conversion, the intensity of love for God and neighbor, zeal for justice and peace, the evangelical sense of the poor and poverty, are required of everyone" (Instruction Libertatis nuntius, 1984).
