The world is undergoing a radical change. Until before the pandemic, society was evolving at an astonishing speed and no one knows for sure where the technological revolution, globalization, the world health crisis and the irruption of generation Z are taking us. From my perspective, this irruption represents the most decisive and aggressive generational leap in recent history, because of the way they socialize and the way they see reality in all areas of life.
The word 'change' is worn out, discredited. It is a catch-all word used by politicians and publicists. How to recognize when we are before a real change I believe that when it comes, it exposes us to a process of distillation, of purification, of alchemy or metamorphosis that has nothing to do with a 'cosmetic', to improve the façade. To change is to flay oneself alive; that is why it hurts and is uncomfortable.
We have to know and assume that this new generation has a new story and new needs that go hand in hand with technology. However, this is not just a technological change. It is a much deeper transformation that forces us out of our comfort zone.
These young people are children of a world without borders who are no longer looking for a lifelong work , although many are surprised or even do not understand it. This is a change from model. The trends are not aimed at retention, but at another modality where the wave of professionals passing through a project is much greater. It is necessary to know how to choose the best, but also to let them leave. We are no longer talking about a employee, but about a professional at the service of society, of the world. Either companies adapt or they will not attract the best talent.
They live in a dynamic of immediacy, because for them everything is fast and fleeting. But of course, how can we tell these protagonists of these restless and curious times that in life practically everything can wait. That it's okay to stop and think. Nothing is going to change and the decisions they make will surely be better. The digital world gives no room for that pause. It demands, it urges. Everything is imminent, everything is urgent, everything is here and now. This experience has conditioned your vision of the world.
They are young people who are able to detach themselves from models, patterns, archetypes and Structures, and create their own mold to make their own decisions and design their character and lifestyle. They are actors of a new professional model actively committed to achieving a more equitable and sustainable world. A kind of 'global citizenship' based on principles such as solidarity, altruism, commitment and social sensitivity, etc.
In terms of work, they are looking for companies that work in a different way. Companies that are committed to technology, that have a high level of commitment and social responsibility, especially with the environment. With mission statement transcend
meeting This new professional profile and other aspects will be discussed between April 13 and 15 at the first Iberoamerican Work Challenge Forum ( employment ), promoted by the University of Navarra and 11 other universities from 8 countries.
It is necessary to reflect on this topic, since today there are many companies looking for talent, but the best ones want to find good talented people.
I offer my particular formula for success for companies to attract young talent:
Young people are looking for socially responsible companies with mission statement transcendent.
They get involved in short projects where they can exploit their innovation and creativity. For them, work is no longer where you go, but what you do.
Yes to mentor, not to the boss. Only with an appreciative look will we be able to move their hearts and see value in this new way of interacting with the world.
They are no longer looking for a lifelong work . They live their professional life as if they were playing video games, going through short and very intense stages.
And a final committee : don't hire for skills, hire for attitude, skills can always be taught. You don't have to be a genius to be great.
This new crop of professionals, even if they are not aware of it, are writing the story of the end of the world as we know it, driving deep and intense social change. Companies can be catalysts for change in society, knowing that the world, our world, may never again be what it was, but neither is it yet what it will definitely be.
