Life has given me the enormous gift of having worked alongside one of the great masters of architecture in this country. In 1995, in my last years at degree program I began to collaborate in his studio, when he was designing the pedestrianization of the old quarter of Pamplona. The black and white photographs of his most outstanding buildings decorated the spaces of work and seduced me from the first moment, almost as much as his personality. Since then, my interest in his architecture grew and led me to develop my doctoral thesis on his work, later published as a book by the Government of Navarra.

During those years, I was also able to collaborate with Fernando in several of his projects. This allowed me to know first hand and in depth his strategies and ways of doing things. I was always fascinated by his great skill to involve his assistants, from the first to the last, so that they would feel the projects as their own, so that they would give the best of themselves in every moment and in every detail of the creative and constructive process. His talent for architecture together with this skill to get the best out of his collaborators, allowed him to erect several of the most relevant and exciting works of Navarrese architecture, from the late 50s to the mid 70s. In partnership with Javier Guibert, and alone from 1967.

He also had a dimension professor in the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and in the University of Arts and Crafts of Pamplona. His time in the classroom left a deep impression on the generations who enjoyed him as a teacher. His relationship with the university world had continuity, since in 1995 he became the first president of the Social committee of the UPNA position which he carried out for 11 years with intensity and good work.

In gratitude for his work, last year the committee Social promoted with timely success an anthological exhibition in the Parliament of Navarre that was named Fernando Redón Huici. Civic Work. In it, as curator of the sample, in partnership very close with Fernando himself, I had the opportunity to review the extent, variety and quality of his work, not only as an architect but also as a draftsman, watercolorist, painter, designer and photographer.

The sample meant a lot to him: "It continually brings back fond memories of meetings and reunions with dear old friends, with alumni and collaborators whom I had not seen for years, and who came many kilometers to see the exhibition and give me a hug". As a final touch, the high school of Architects of Navarre awarded him the Golden Plummet on award , after a conversation with his friend Rafael Moneo.

At staff, those who had the opportunity to know him well know that Fernando was a true humanist, a Renaissance artist and at the same time a contemporary creator. Fernando Redón Huici was one of the most cultured, pleasant and endearing people I have ever met.
Talking with him and working with him was a continuous learning and a real pleasure. Such was his capacity to enjoy art and culture that his enthusiasm was easily contagious. A great lover of the plastic arts, music, literature and cinema, Fernando possessed an enormous and fascinating knowledge of all these disciplines. All his life he was a tireless and passionate worker. Born into a cultivated family of engineers, he was educated in the importance of effort and tenacity. From childhood he showed a natural talent for drawing and until his last days, when his health was already very poor, he still had the strength to continue sitting at his drawing board, with the illusion of continuing to draw and design the last project he had in his hands.

Until his last days he kept the awake and curious look of the child he was. A lively and blue gaze that crystal clear revealed the passion he always felt for his architect official document , for his various hobbies and for any form of cultural expression. His eyes were always full of intense love for his land and his family.

In these difficult moments, still shocked by his loss, we are left with the satisfaction of knowing that Fernando has lived a long, intense and fortunate life. And that he will continue to be very present in the hearts of those of us who loved and admired him.
