Ecology and intelligence

"Precisely because of his unique dignity and because he is endowed with intelligence, the human being is called to respect creation with its internal laws, since 'by wisdom the Lord founded the earth' (Prov. 3:19)." This is one of the key phrases of Pope Francis' latest encyclical, when he enters subject (second chapter), after a description of the possible damage that could result from not taking care of theearth, whether out of selfishness or for other reasons .

The basic question is not, therefore, that any animal species disappears, since throughout the history of the world, many species have disappeared and many "new" ones have been created. throughout the history of the world, there are many species that have disappeared and many "new" species, so to speak, that have arisen or adapted to transformed environments, so to speak, emerged or adapted to transformed environments. Nor is it the first time Nor is it the first time that the climate has changed, something that has happened, as can be easily verified, without need to appeal to the long geological cycles, but to situate ourselves in the merely historical eras. merely historical eras. In Wales and England wine was produced in Roman times and vineyards were important in the and vineyards were important in the 11th century. And now they are important again.

The central issue is that man, the only intelligent being on the planet, discovers the intelligent design on which the earth is founded. intelligent design on which the earth is founded. And that, having discovered this project (or at least intuited) he should decide to behave intelligently, and not selfishly, because in the short run he himself would be harmed.

The Pope therefore calls for an intelligent gaze upon the globe, which presupposes respect for the wise law of all things, beginning with the law that man himself bears inscribed in his own nature. inscribed in his very nature.

It is obvious that not everything that can be done, must be done. Not everything that is technically possible has to be done, because, although technically possible, it may be astupid decision. To believe, from entrance, that everything is at our disposal according to whim, is a ridiculous approach . Thatis why, almost at the beginning, the Pope states that: "the social environment also has its wounds. But they are all basically due to the same evil, namely, theidea that there are no indisputable truths to guide our lives, sothat human freedom would have no limits".

It is possible, for example, to make a child in a test tube, but it is impossible for a child to agree to have neither father nor mother. And this is also ecology.
