22N: You are not alone

Three days after the massive demonstration in Madrid under the slogan "Every life matters", I think that the event marks a before and after in the effort to argue to public officials that the legal reform that protects the conceived human being in any of its phases can no longer be delayed.

In addition to the variety of ages that could be observed among the thousands of participants, and the cries in favor of life and motherhood, the clamor of concrete testimony seemed to me to be the strong point of the argument, both because of the numerous families who directly declared before the media their experience of complicated pregnancies that they tried to carry to the end with effort, sacrifice, pain at losing the child despite the efforts, joy while showing the cameras the premature child who had come out ahead.... Their words denoted authenticity, accompanied by smiling faces or faces filled with tears that evoked the child who did not see the light of day or the one who died some time later, in spite of the efforts to carry him or her to the end.

Also the seven women who, from the podium, offered testimonies of the pressures they had suffered to abort, or the emptiness from their family, work or friends when they decided to go ahead with their pregnancy, with their concluding phrase: "I found myself alone" were convincing regarding the real status of women in the abortion subculture. Their faces and the tone of their words showed who are "the other victims" in the framework of a decriminalizing abortion legislation that leaves both the human embryo and its mother unprotected.

Finally, hope was filled with the clamor of the crowd who, in response to "I found myself alone" or "I was left alone", chanted with strength and authenticity: "You are not alone!

Precisely that same week during ethics classes in San Sebastian, a Caritas volunteer student who has accompanied pregnant women with problems, helping them to go ahead with their pregnancies, described with concrete cases the loneliness of these girls and the tremendous pressures they experience, pushing them to have an abortion. The student accompanies them and financial aid from Caritas but protested to her classmates because there is no public support for young women from the institutions; only pro-life associations of social initiative, or religious institutions maintain networks, shelters that accompany women-mothers with problems.

The social clamor that has been shouting to the public opinion since 22N: "every life matters" and to every mother in difficulties: "You are not alone" can mean a change of cycle if the political class corrects its deafness.

Benigno Blanco's words addressed to the current Executive were clear and supported by the testimonial argumentation to which I have just referred: "Thanks to you, perhaps the President will reconsider his decision. Thanks to you, many women will know that they are not alone, that they have us at their disposal to avoid the temptation to have an abortion. Thanks to you, millions of people will know that they should not be discouraged and Spanish society will not become accustomed to abortion, nor will a veil of silence be drawn over thousands of innocent deaths".

In the 22N demonstration, if we review the image galleries, the abundant presence of young people is evident. From San Sebastian, a good group of university students occupied place in some buses that left at five in the morning, to arrive on time to Madrid. The early rising of those who are used to staying up late every weekend is, without a doubt, a test of authenticity... They constitute a sign of hope to avoid getting used to that macabre abortionist internship , which leads the current subculture of death, and a solidary support to women who find themselves alone when they do not know what to do with the creature they carry in their wombs. There is still time to continue to cultivate in the classroom the love for all human life and the attitude of solidarity towards all women mothers who encounter obstacles in accepting their maternity.
