St. Josemaría Escrivá, founder of the University and its first Chancellor, visited campus for the fourth time in 1967.
Bishop Escriva arrived in Pamplona from Rome after visiting Tajamar and Besana in Madrid, two educational initiatives promoted by Opus Dei. He stayed, as was customary during his stays in the city, at the Aralar. high school Mayor Aralar; and the first thing he did on his arrival was to visit St. Mary Mother of Fair Love at Shrine of Our Lady of Fair Love of campus. The following day, October 6, he greeted the main authorities of Navarre at the Provincial Council.
On the 7th, the great chancellor presided over the investiture of six new honorary doctors: Willy Onclin, Guilherme Braga da Cruz, Ralph M. Hower, Carlos Jiménez Díaz (posthumously), Jean Roche and Otto B. Roegele. Roegele.
That evening, St. Josemaría met in the Gayarre Theater with about 3,000 Friends of the University, who came from all over Navarre. The meeting, during which Bishop Escrivá spoke about the family and freedom, was a prelude to the celebration that would take place the following day.
You, Friends of the University of Navarra, are part of a people who know that they are committed to the progress of the society to which they belong".
The solemnity of the academic protocol gave way on October 8 to a party full of color, banners and music. The Navarrese were joined by more than 20,000 Friends from all over Spain and from other countries such as England and the United States, and from those to which the new doctors belonged: Portugal, Belgium, Germany, France and Italy. The association of Friends of the University, founded in 1960, celebrated its II General Assembly.
The events began with a multitudinous Mass, which was celebrated on the esplanade of the Library Services. During the Eucharist, St. Josemaría gave the homily known as the "homily of campus," which years later was published under the title degree scroll "Passionately Loving the World.
SpanishAt the end of the Mass, ten university students read the invocations in the following languages: Catalan, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Swahili, Basque and position .
After Mass, a telegram sent by Pope Paul VI to Chancellor was read, in which he greeted the Friends and thanked them for their financial aid to the University; and another, in reply from St. Josemaría to the Holy Father.
We find ourselves in a singular temple; it could be said that the nave is the university campus ; the altarpiece, the Library Services of the University; over there, the machinery that raises new buildings; and above, the sky of Navarre".
The doctoral inauguration ceremony honoris causa and the II General Assembly of the association de Amigos de la Universidad had an important echo in the Spanish media. All the newspapers sent correspondents and published extensive chronicles and commentaries.

50th Anniversary of the association de Amigos (2010): remembering the "homily of campus"
On October 23, 2010, association de Amigos celebrated its 50th anniversary. More than 4,000 people gathered at campus to participate in the celebrations.
The day began with a Mass celebrated on the esplanade of the library by Bishop Javier Echevarría, then Chancellor of the university. The ceremony was reminiscent of the one celebrated in the same place by St. Josemaría in 1967, on the occasion of the Second Assembly of the association of Friends.
In his remarks, Bishop Echevarría made numerous references to the homily of campus. St. Josemaría," he said, "made us consider once again that the Christian life, that of each of us workshop, has to develop, in the most diverse circumstances, with reference letter to the Eucharist. He encouraged us, as a consequence of a profound Eucharistic life, to discover the quid divinum that is contained in all circumstances and occupations, even those that seem most material.
After the Mass, a meeting with delegates and members of the association of Friends was held at the classroom Magna of the Central Building , presided by the President, Ángel J. Gómez Montoro; by the president of ADA, José María Bastero; and by the Vice President of Alumni, María Iraburu.
The events were completed with a crowded get-together with Monsignor Echeverría at sports center and with a concert at position by the San Sebastian Musicalis Choir.
