Cristina Tabernero and Jesús M. Usunáriz, researchers at group of research Siglo de Oro (GRISO) of the University of Navarra, have just published a "Dictionary of insults of the 16th and 17th centuries". Published by Kassel, Edition Reichenberger, in the Collection "Glossaries and Manuals", this "Dictionary" is the result of the analysis of about 1,500 judicial processes on insults of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It includes more than 1,000 terms and expressions, accompanied by the definition, graphic, etymological and grammatical information of 8,200 contexts of use, and more than 1,800 documentary testimonies. The whole constitutes a reflection of what could have been the oral tradition of the speakers of the past and of their cultural values. It is a contribution to the history of the lexicon and the social history of the Spanish Golden Age.
This Issue is part of the results of the project "speech y poder, language y autoridad en el mundo hispánico (siglos XVI-XVII)" (HAR2012-31536), funded by the Ministry of Economics and Competitiveness, and of the graduate "Universos discursivos e identidad femenina: élites y cultura popular (1600-1850)" (HAR2017-84615-P), funded by the Ministry of Economics, Industria y Competitividad del Gobierno de España.
