Organized by the Navarra Center for International Development and the Ramón Areces Foundation, it will feature experts from organizations such as the IMF and universities from seven countries.
The effectiveness of foreign financial aid , poverty indicators to guide public policies and the role of women in developing countries development are some of the topics to be addressed at the V NCID Research Workshop. The activity is organized by the Navarra Center for International Development (NCID) of the University of Navarra and the Ramón Areces Foundation, and will be held on June 6 and 7 at the Foundation's headquarters.
This is an international meeting on Economics of development where experts from global organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and universities from seven countries will present the most recent work on different aspects related to development, poverty and inequality.
development Keynote speakers include Stefania Fabrizio of the IMF, who will provide an analysis of economic and social policies in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), outlined by the United Nations as a follow-up to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The SDGs include economic diversification and structural transformation within a stable macroeconomic framework ; gender equality; financial and economic inclusion; and environmental sustainability.
Christiana Anaxagorou of the University of Sheffield will address the effectiveness of financial aid external to countries at development and how the quality of institutions in these nations influences that effectiveness.
The research to be presented by Sonia Bhalotra of the University of Essex is related to the role of women in countries at development. Specifically, she will analyze the extent to which female political representation improves the public provision of prenatal and child health services.
Women are also the topic of the work to be shown by Joseph F. Gomes, from the NCID of the University of Navarra: he will focus on the importance of gender inequality in maternal mortality rates and female life expectancy.
Two lectures open to the publicTwo conferences open to the public will be held at the framework of the scientific meeting . On June 6, Gonzalo Hernández Licona, from the committee Nacional de assessment de la Política de development Social - CONEVAL (Mexico), will explain the use of a multidimensional index to measure poverty in Mexico, which has facilitated the coordination of different ministries and the country's Central Bank in the development of public policies to eradicate extreme poverty.
On June 7, Chris Papageorgiou of the IMF will speak on how the diversification of products exported by a country, the quality of these products and their ubiquity (if they are produced by only a few countries) are now considered an excellent indicator of a nation's potential development .
The V NCID Research Workshop is organized by the Navarra Center for International Development (NCID) of the University of Navarra and the Ramón Areces Foundation. The NCID is a group of research of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS), the research center in Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Navarra. It seeks scientific solutions to situations of extreme poverty in countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. To achieve this, it focuses on two lines: the quality of public and private institutions in each nation, and the transfer of technologies.
