The University's Science School and CEIN join forces in a bio-entrepreneurship programme for science students

25 students from Degrees participate in an intensive program on business at CEIN's facilities.

The School of Science of the University of Navarra, in partnership with the European Business and Innovation Center of Navarrahas organized a week of training in bioentrepreneurship. This intensive course - 30 hours long - is part of the diploma Science and Business business program, a program of taken by the students of Degrees of Biochemistry (biomedical), Biology and Chemistry.

"Through the Science and Business Program we provide our students with a training at business which is fundamental to be able to face the future of work with good prospects," says José Manuel Trillo, director of development of the School Science.

For her part, María Sanz de Galdeano, coordinator of CEIN, considers that it is core topic for the training of student body "to know in depth the processes of entrepreneurship and the characteristics of the sector and to be able to detect opportunities to develop a business idea in it".

The 25 students participating in this intensive course receive theoretical and practical sessions in order to acquire skills to develop entrepreneurship and business creation projects. Some of the topics covered are the creation of a biotech start-up, development and design of new products and services, business lines in the chemical and health industries, negotiation and management of conflicts.   

"This training brings students closer to business reality and equips them with skills to make a difference in relevant scientific sectors such as biotechnology or pharmaceuticals, among others. The possibility of developing a business idea in the field of science, or acquiring knowledge about negotiation, communication and marketing, or entrepreneurship is necessary for future scientists," he adds.

This course was attended by Juan Álvarez, patron and director physician of the Pfizer Foundation; Julio Masset, Corporate Scientific Director in CINFA; Iñaki Recalde, Diversification director at VISCOFAN Julen Oyarzábal, partner and CSO at Columbus Venture Partners; as well as entrepreneurs from different start-ups such as InnoupFarma, Telum Therapeutics, Geiserpharma y Proinec.

The program of sessions, given by CEIN, has been completed with several group workshops, round tables, oral presentations, and guided visits to Nasertic Navarra de Servicios y Tecnologías -Navarra de Servicios y Tecnologías- and research center biomédica NavarraBiomed.
