Dr. Julio Artieda, new director of the area of Neurosciences of the University of Navarra CIMA

Dr. Julio Artieda González-Granda is the new director of the area of Neurosciences of the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) of the University of Navarra. He replaces Dr. Joaquín del Río, who is retiring. Julio Artieda, a native of León, is a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Navarra and a specialist in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology. He rejoined the University Clinic of Navarra and School of Medicine in 1983, after a postdoctoral stay at the Sainte Anne Hospital (Paris).

His research has been developed in both clinical and experimental fields and has focused on different aspects of the neurophysiology of voluntary movements and movement disorders, especially Parkinson's disease. He is the author of more than 150 articles in international journals, 8 books and monographs and almost 400 papers and communications to congresses.

He is also vice-president of high school of research Sanitaria de Navarra, corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Medicine and belongs to several national and international scientific societies. He also belongs to several editorial and scientific committees of journals and agencies of assessment. He was director of the department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of the University Clinic of Navarra (1993-2000) and currently directs the laboratory of Neurophysiology of the CIMA and the Neurophysiology Service of the University Clinic of Navarra. Since 2003 he is Associate Dean of the School of Medicine.
