The Adjunct Professor of the University of Navarra receives the distinction for the best scientist 2013 in the field of food.
Dr. Javier Aranceta, Adjunct Professor of the Schools de Pharmacy and Medicine of the University of Navarra, has been awarded the award 'Doctor Gregorio Marañón' Memorial of the Spanish Royal Academy of Gastronomy (RAG). This award distinguishes him as the best scientist of 2013 in the field of food.
This is the highest scientific recognition awarded annually by this national entity with the goal to improve Spanish gastronomy and public health in relation to food. On this occasion, the award has been awarded ex aequo to Lluis Serra, founder of the Spanish Academy of Nutrition and Food Sciences.
Dr. Aranceta is Professor of Community Nutrition, Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Navarra. He has long experience in directing research projects related to Nutritional Epidemiology and Community Nutrition. He is currently vice-president of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Basque Country and chairs the committee Scientific Committee of the Spanish Society of Community Nutrition. He has published numerous books and articles in national and international journals such as Nutrición Hospitalaria, Medicina Clínica, British Journal of Nutrition or European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
Specifically, the jury of the memorial awards, composed of the Boards of the Royal Academy of Gastronomy and the Brotherhood of the Good Table, has recognized the work of Professor Aranceta for his contribution to the promotion of the Mediterranean per diem expenses as model of healthy eating and tool of health promotion.
