Onésimo Díaz, researcher of the University of Navarra, has published La revista "Arbor" (1944-2014). Estudio y antología de una publicación del committee Superior de Investigaciones Científicas. This book analyzes the Spanish cultural magazine with more years of uninterrupted edition, surpassing the Revista de Occidente.
The work, which makes issue ten of the collection of monographs Anejos Arbor, published by the committee Superior de Investigaciones Científicaspresents the history of this magazine from its birth in 1944 to the present day. It also reviews the figures of its editors and the most representative covers, and offers an anthology of texts published in it, as a facsimile edition, about its own trajectory.
"The reference letter to Arbor is a must to understand the cultural changes from the Spanish postwar period to the present, both for the variety of topics covered in its pages on science and thought, as well as for the signatures of its contributors, including Spanish intellectuals such as Enrique Tierno Galván and José Luis López Aranguren to Nobel laureates such as Friedrich August von Hayek ( Economics) and Gabriela Mistral (Literature), "says Onésimo Díaz.
Evolution of thought and science in SpainThe texts published in Arbor provide a panoramic and contextualized view not only of the history of the journal, but also of its contribution to the knowledge of national culture and the impact of its approaches on the evolution of thought and science in Spain, according to the author. "The fact that a journal open to all branches of knowledge continues to be published today speaks volumes in favor of its necessity, its breadth and its vigor".
The book pays tribute to the 70 years of this publication, which "has remained with the same name and its own style, reaching its purpose to disseminate scientific content in the field of thought and the technical world," he stresses.
The essay ends with a chapter graduate "The beginning of an era adapted to new technologies (2012-2014)" in which it describes the historical context of the government of Mariano Rajoy. During this period, the end of Basque terrorism was glimpsed, while the threat of Islamic terrorism remained. On this, Onésimo Díaz believes that "terrorism, barbarism and ignorance must also be fought with the weapons of culture".
The magazine "Arbor" (1944-2014). Estudio y antología de una publicación del committee Superior de Investigaciones Científicas is "something more than the history of a publication, as it offers a panoramic view of the main cultural themes of our recent history," explains the author.
