New edition of the Industry Symposium

Professionals from Cinfa, Campofrío and IAN shared with E-MENU students different experiences on personalized nutrition and the adaptation of the industry to market needs.

On March 22, the Master's Degree European University in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism (E-MENU) held a new edition of the Industry Symposium, an activity for students that is part of the subject Capita Selecta.

On this occasion, three representatives from different companies in the sector participated. Eduardo González Zorzano, manager of the department scientific of Consumer Healthcare of Laboratorios Cinfa, explained the novelties of a precision nutrigenetic test developed at partnership with the research center in Nutrition of the University of Navarra. In addition, he detailed other advances in the field of personalized nutrition such as a test of predisposition Genetics of the individual to different diseases with the goal to counteract them through personalized nutrition.

Romina Polo, from Campofrío Food Group, gave a presentation entitled "Food industry, food personalization and the role of the nutritionist in all of this" at discussion paper . She addressed the adaptation of consumer products to the needs of the market, depending on the social profile to which they are addressed. He gave as an example the Departments of research and development and marketing of Campofrío, which work together to bring to the market personalized products such as low fat, eco or bio.

Finally, Francisco Javier Salcedo, director of research and development+i of group IAN, commented on the nutritional strategies they develop in their business based on programs of study carried out through consumer surveys. "In this way, we are able to generate new products or modify existing ones to adapt to the needs we detect in the market."
