Ana Choperena, Carolina Ugarte and Alberto Pérez Mediavilla, new University deans

They replace Mercedes Pérez, Concepción Naval and Luis Montuenga at Schools of Nursing, Education and Psychology, and Sciences.

The president of the University of Navarra, María Iraburu, has appointed Ana Choperena, Carolina Ugarte and Alberto Pérez Mediavilla, deans of the Schools of Nursing, of Education and Psychology, and of Sciences, respectively.

Ana Choperena (Pamplona, 1980) replaces Mercedes Pérez Díez del Corral, who had occupied the position since 2014. Diploma in Nursing (2001), degree in Humanities (2008) with award extraordinary end of degree program and PhD in History (2014) from the University of Navarra, Ana Choperena has worked as a nurse for seven years in the Clinic's Hemodialysis service.

Since 2017 she has been Vice Dean of Office of Academic Affairs (until 2022) and of Students at School Nursing, where she teaches her teaching. She leads the project of research "NarratUN", which promotes the use of clinical narratives for the development professional in Nursing and collaborates with the group REDWINN, of the Institute for Culture and Societywhich seeks to give visibility to the contribution of women in different fields. She is also a member of group of research "Innovation for Person-Centered Care". She has completed postdoctoral fellowships at the William F. Connell School of Nursing at Boston College and at the Massachusetts General Hospital, also in Boston.

Carolina Ugarte (Pamplona 1976), new dean of the School of Education and Psychology, replaces Concepción Naval, who held this position since 2013. With a degree in Psychopedagogy and a PhD in Education from the University, she is a full professor at the area of Theory and History of the Education and director of the department Learning and Curriculum.

His research focuses on the autonomy of schools as a criterion of educational quality and on the study of pedagogical leadership as an element core topic in the profile of school principals. His recent publications include article on the promotion of school quality in the International Journal of Leadership in Education. She is part of the group of research "Education, citizenship and character" and is a member of project "Civic Parliament", which was created jointly between the University and the Parliament of Navarra (2010-2017).

For his part, Alberto Pérez Mediavilla (San Sebastián, 1964) will replace Luis Montuenga at position , who was Dean of the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra since 2014. graduate (1988) and PhD (1993) in Biology from the University, he is professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Degree of Medicine, of Cell Signaling at Degree of Biochemistry and of Metabolism at Degree of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

She has been Associate Dean of Office of Academic Affairs of the School of Sciences (2021-23) and Associate Dean of Students (2009-18) in the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition. She is part of the committee advisor of the School of Medicine for the implementation of the integrated curriculum and has been director of the Diploma of Sports Nutrition of the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition. In 1995 and 1998 he was visiting professor at the National Eye Institute(National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, United States). researcher of the Cima Since 2004, his research field has focused on the identification of therapeutic targets for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
