The University of Navarra and the Santo Domingo Market in Pamplona have presented the cycle 'Do you follow the Mediterranean per diem expenses ?', an activity that will allow dietitians-nutritionists from the academic center to offer free personalized nutritional advice to all those who visit the Market on October 6, 8, 13 and 15 from 10 am to 2 pm.

Alfredo Martínez, Full Professor of Nutrition and director of the high school of Food Sciences of the University of Navarra, presented the activity as an initiative of Education "that allows us to improve our eating habits and solve some recurring doubts about what functional foods are and what they are for or how to interpret the new food labels, for example".

Likewise, the expert highlighted that the activity will focus on the realization of a personalized questionnaire on the follow-up of per diem expenses Mediterranean: "The goal consists of each person knowing if they really follow a patron saint of per diem expenses Mediterranean, associated with the intake of yogurts, fruits, vegetables and fish, among other foods, and which has already proven to be an excellent tool to prevent cardiovascular diseases, obesity or diabetes, among other problems".

According to the specialist, the activity will also show the role of the dietitian-nutritionist in promoting healthy eating habits. "For example, many times we cook legumes with rice because we know that it is a combination that enriches, but we do not take into account that adding chorizo or green bell pepper facilitates the fixation of iron and the assimilation of the proteins of this dish; an optimization in which dietitian nutritionists are experts".

A modern and healthy market
In the presentation of the activity was present Ana Pineda, councilor delegate of Local Finance and Commerce and Tourism of the City of Pamplona, who stressed the importance of this joint activity "as an example of social service that sample the value of research that develop dietitians nutritionists from the University of Navarra and the involvement of the Market itself in promoting the health of consumers." In this sense, he recalled that going shopping at the market "is not only good for the quality of its products, but also because it incorporates the habit of coming to shop on foot, by bicycle or by public transport; a dynamic that contributes to the Education in healthy habits".

The opening ceremony of the cycle was also attended by María Jesús Moreno, Vice-Dean of research of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra, researchers with PhDs in Nutrition Itziar Abete and Santiago Navas, and General Manager of the Santo Domingo Market Susana Frommknecht.
