Francisco Varo Pineda, professor of School of Theology at the University, has been appointed advisor of the Episcopal Subcommission for Interconfessional Relations and Interreligious Dialogue, to which he will contribute his extensive knowledge of Judaism knowledge . The Executive Council of the Spanish Episcopal lecture gave the approval to the election in its 265th meeting, celebrated at the end of January.

Francisco Varo Pineda is graduate in Mathematical Sciences (1978) from the University of Malaga, Doctor in Theology (1982) from our University, and Doctor in Trilingual Biblical Philology (1991) from the Pontifical University of Salamanca. He joined the University in 1986. Full Professor of Sacred Scripture (Old Testament), has been director of programs of study (1995-98), Dean (1998-04) and director of research (2019-22) of the School of Theology. He is currently the director of the journal Scripta Theologica.

He has taken courses of specialization and stays of research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) and at the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce (Rome). He has been Visiting Professor in charge of courses at the Pontifical University of Salamanca and at the School of Pontifical and Civil Theology of Lima. He is also a member of the association Bíblica Española and the association Española de programs of study Hebrews and Jews. He is the author of eight monographs and numerous book chapters and articles in specialized journals.
