The recital of Basque-Moroccan oral improvisation 'Sing and I will sing to you - Kanta ezan eta kantatuko dinat' will bring together on Monday, June 11, at 7 pm in Civivox Condestable the bertsolari Maialen Lujambio and Latifa Laaroussia, singer of ayllus (oral poetry of northern Morocco), both clear exponents of the oral tradition in their respective territories. The session is organized by the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra and Mintzola Ahozko Lantegia, with the partnership of the City Council of Pamplona and the Chair of language and Basque Culture of the academic center.

During the recital, the two artists will first give a short introduction to the Basque and Moroccan oral tradition. Then, they will perform a small rhyming improvisation game based on words and phrases. Finally, a roundtable will be held to discuss the role of oral tradition with expert researchers at subject. In the case of bertsolaritza, Asier Barandiarán(University of the Basque Country) and Forrest Cole(University of Zayed) will participate; and as an expert in ayllus, the Russian researcher Sarali Ginstburg (University of Navarra). The event will have Arabic-Spanish and Basque-Spanish interpreters.

The recital is part of the ICS's project ORFORCREA, on which Sarali Gintsburg is working thanks to a Marie Curie scholarship , one of the most competitive in the European Union. ORFORCREA investigates the cognitive instructions of creativity in verbal art by examining its interaction with both oral tradition and literacy.

Maialen Lujanbio

A native of Hernani, she is the first woman to win the txapela of the Absolute Bertsolaris Championship (Bertsolari Txapelketa Nagusia) in 2009, degree scroll which she revalidated in 2017 and is considered by many to be the best bertsolari of the 21st century. Lujanbio entered the bertsos school at the age of 11 and, soon after, she began to stand out. At the age of 15 she made her debut in her first session at a place singing alongside established bertsolaris such as Andoni Egaña, Anjel Mari Peñagarikano and Kristina Mardaras in Hondarribia. Since then, she conquered several competitions until she reached the highest category in 2009. She has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Leioa and has a postgraduate course taught by the School of Humanities and Sciences of the teaching of the University of Mondragon (HUEZI).

Latifa Laaroussia

He was born in a small village near Chefchauen (Morocco) into a very conservative family. Although her dream was to sing - which she did whenever she escaped to the fields - her father forbade her to do so. At the age of 15, she was widowed and position of a baby. Her new status moved her to pursue her dream and she contacted contact with a recording studio that, as soon as they heard her, fell in love with her voice. Since then, she has released a dozen albums and participates annually in television programs in Morocco. For the last ten years she has lived in Frigiliana (Malaga) where she works as a chambermaid in several hotels.
