The University pays tribute to Full Professor Manuel Casado

The President Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero chairs the event that will take place tomorrow, Friday, at the classroom Magna del Central Building

The University of Navarra pays tribute to Full Professor Manuel Casado, who recently retired. The event will take place tomorrow, Friday, at the classroom Magna of Central Building and will be chaired by President Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero. The event is organized by the School of Philosophy and Letters and the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) in partnership with the School of Communication.  

The workshop will begin with a roundtable at 7 pm. With the degree scroll "Language and culture in today's society: interdisciplinary views", will intervene María Antonia Martín Zorraquino, professor of Spanish language of the University of Zaragoza; Rafael Alvira Domínguez, Full Professor of Philosophy of the University of Navarra; Salvador Gutiérrez Ordóñez, Full Professor of General Linguistics of the University of León and member of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE); and Manuel Martín Algarra, Full Professor of Communication Theory of the University of Navarra.

Full Professor of language Spanish and member of the RAE

Manuel Casado has been Full Professor of language Spanish at the University of La Coruña (1990-1998), where he was Associate Dean of the School of Philology; and at the University of Navarra (1998-2018), where he was Vice President of academic staff (1997-2007) and Dean (1984-1990) of the School of Information Sciences (currently School of Communication). He has also taught at the University of Seville (1971-1975) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1979-1980). Since 2010 and until his retirement he has been researcher principal of the project 'Public discourse' of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS). Since 2004, he has been a corresponding member of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE).

He is the author of more than a hundred scientific publications such as El Spanish actual: usos y normas; Lenguaje, valores y manipulación; or El léxico diferencial de Don Benito.Vocabulario común, among others.

She has participated as researcher principal in several projects funded by public and private organizations. His research has dealt, especially, with the current Spanish lexicon, grammar issues rules and regulations, the language in the media, and text linguistics and grammar.
