position The presentation of the book will take place at the Hotel Silken Juan de Austria in Valladolid on December 10 at 7:00 p.m. and will be hosted by journalist Manuel Martín Ferrand. This year marks the 225th anniversary of the publication of Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations". On that occasion, Reyes Calderón, professor of the School of Economic Sciences of the University of Navarra, elaborated the biography of Joseph Alonso Ortiz. "The novel reflects the life of a Spaniard not far from us, who cries and laughs like so many others, loves and works like many others, but who, without wanting to, finds himself in trouble that is beyond him," she describes.

A scientific challenge

Reyes Calderon wrote the biography of this Spanish gentleman after reading his letters, his will and many documents provided by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Chancery of Valladolid and the Spanish Embassy in London. "His life was for me a scientific challenge , as I had to follow his biographical and doctrinal trail through many Spanish and British archives, not to mention Algerian and French ones," he says.

The author, born in Valladolid in 1961, holds a degree in Economics and a PhD in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Navarra. She is currently a professor at the University of Navarra and a visiting professor at the Sorbonne University (Paris) and the University of Berkeley (California).
