It is increasingly difficult to distinguish the border between cities and the countryside. The urbanized space is spreading and colonizing the landscape. "But architecture cannot be an aggression to the landscape, but must be integrated into it," said José Manuel Pozo, professor at the Technical School of Architecture of the University of Navarra (ETSAUN). He has been in charge of preparing, together with other professors and architects, the first edition of the "Landscape Encounters", which will take place in Pamplona from November 22 to January 13 and have been organized by the high school of Basque-Navarre Architects (COAVN) and the University of Navarra.

José Manuel Pozo pointed out that "this initiative responds to a concern of Navarrese architects for an avant-garde topic in the research and discussion on the development urban development such as landscape". The goal of the conference is to show the work that can be done in this field and discuss them. To this end, round tables on Peripheral Landscapes were organized on November 22 and 23 with the participation of European architects such as Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani, Francesco Careri, Olga Tarrasó and Teresa Galí.

Magnago Lampugnani, professor at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, noted that "in Europe there is not a single square meter of landscape that has not been, in some way, designed." "The best solution to the problem of peripheries is to make as clear a distinction as possible between urbanized and uninhabited space," he added.

Until recently it has been common to consider the different disciplines involved in landscape as independent of each other. According to José Manuel Pozo, concern for the landscape should be extended to other professionals. "It should be a joint work between architects, biologists, engineers... because a global consideration of the landscape is very important."

Another of the activities programmed on the occasion of these meetings is a "Contest of ideas for the landscape solution for the accesses to the cemetery of Pamplona", in whichJosé Antonio Ruiz and Ignacio Ruiz, alumni of the University of Navarra, won the first prize award .

At the same time, the exhibition "Paisajes de Navarra", a collection of images of various landscapes of this community and "Talleres de Paisaje en la School of Architecture. Results and proposals", a sample consisting of projects signed by ETSAUN students. The works feature elements that are often unusual for architects, such as earth, vegetation and water. Finally, the Polvorín de la Ciudadela will host from December 13 the exhibition "Visiones del paisaje" (Visions of Landscape). Originally conceived as a meeting of the artistic creations of Navarrese painters and artists about the landscape of the region, the collection also brings together their personal visions of the peripheries.

José Manuel Pozo and Conrado Capilla, professors at ETSAUN, and Óscar Pérez, former student , participated in the organization of these meetings. Architects from COAVN, the Pamplona City Council and the Government of Navarra also collaborated.
