On June 17, the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition at the University of Navarra held a heartfelt farewell ceremony to mark the retirement of Professor Conchita Cid Canda.
The workshop at 12:00 p.m. with a Holy Mass in the chapel , followed by an academic ceremony in classroom presided over by the Vice President faculty, Secundino Fernández, and attended by professors María Paz Peña and Icíar Astiasarán, as well as the honoree herself.
A career marked by rigor and the search for talent
Conchita Cid, a professor of Nutrition and Food Science since 2010, has left a bequest goes beyond her five six-year terms of research her prolific scientific work. During the ceremony, Secundino Fernández described her as a “tangible embodiment of what it means to be a professor at the University of Navarra,” highlighting her “serene determination to always do the right thing correctly” and her ability to combine academic rigor with profound humanity.
Her degree program, which began in Santiago de Compostela and was further developed during her time at CEICID in Madrid and the UPV/EHU, has been focused on research coffee and its byproducts, bioactive compounds, and health. In addition, she held key management positions management vice dean of Office of Academic Affairs assistant to the vice rector.

Advisor to doctoral students and a role model for her approachability
One of the most significant moments was the speech by María Paz Peña, her first doctoral student, who recalled how Conchita became a true “master at discovering talent.” Throughout her degree program Cid supervised degree program thesis , always fostering a relationship based on trust and personalized attention. “Students respond much better when grade by their professor,” Cid herself noted when reflecting on her professor philosophy.
"Look Up": A Message for the Future
In her speech , Conchita Cid was visibly moved as she thanked her advisors (Dr. M. Pilar Fernández Otero and Dr. Bello), her family, and her research team. She urged young faculty members and doctoral students to “look ahead” and not be afraid of the degree program , which she described as “exciting.”
In closing, he recalled the words of St. Josemaría Escrivá: “Dream, and you’ll still fall short,” encouraging the entire university community to maintain the courage to look to the future with hope and a spirit of service.
