The School of Nursing of the University of Navarra has held a new edition of the Nursing Summer School, an international program aimed at Nursing Degree students that promotes academic training , cultural exchange and the development of professional competencies in a global environment.

On this occasion, 65 participants from four foreign universities, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA) and University of Stirling (UK), took part in this initiative that combines academic sessions with Cultural Activities Office in Navarra and its surroundings.

"One of the main objectives of the program is to offer an international and intercultural learning experience that allows students to understand and practice nursing from a holistic perspective, focusing on individuals, families and communities," says Clara Cabrera, program manager .

The program, which took place over the course of a week, featured morning academic sessions given by international guest lecturers - Margaret Ruddy (University of Stirling), Dominick Osipowicz and Daniel Naveiro (University of Pennsylvania), and Amy Johnson (UIC College of Nursing) - as well as by professors from the University of Navarra: Jesús Martín, Amparo Zaragoza, María Lavilla and Hildegart González. Topics covered included comparative health systems, nursing leadership, health promotion, media and advanced clinical internship , among others.

In addition, the program was supported by the School's Simulation Center, where professors Sonsoles Martín and Almudena Castillo coordinated practical activities with the fourth-year students of the International Nursing Program (INP).

"This is a great opportunity for the whole School, for our students and for the invited universities. We share knowledge, cultures, professional ties and friendships that last beyond the classroom," says Jesús Martín Martín, coordinator of the International Nursing Diploma .

In the afternoons, participants enjoyed a culturaldiary designed to discover the natural, historical and gastronomic heritage of the region. Among the visits were the Foz de Lumbier, the Monastery of Leyre, San Sebastian, the Castle of Olite, the wineries of San Martin de Unx, the place of Pamplona and the Cathedral of Santa Maria la Real.

This edition of the Nursing Summer School consolidates the School of Nursing's commitment to international, comprehensive and humanistictraining that prepares future nursing professionals for the global challenges of health care.
