It is seven o'clock in the evening, the CommunicationSchool is gradually emptying, the building is silent after a day full of voices, classes, comings and goings... It is time to break with the noise, to stop listening and start listening.

The programs of study of 98.3 Radio welcomes, as every Wednesday, the twenty students participating in the Music Production Workshop, and its promoter, Iñaki Llarena, the head of production of the radio station.

After five editions, the workshop is a classic at the University. Every year it brings together students from all Schools around music. For two hours a week, the participants close their eyes and open their ears, and through a chronological journey, they begin to really listen to modern music. "It's not about watching a subject on youtube teaching you how to play the Rolling Stones on the guitar, but about stopping to analyze the songs we've always heard," says Llarena.

The goal of the workshop is to learn about the world of music and everything that surrounds it. To examine the rhythm, the lyrics, what is hidden behind the voices; but also, to learn about the world of sound and music production. To understand how we have arrived at today's music, Llarena begins the journey at the end of the 19th century. From there, he analyzes music of all styles: gospel, blues, pop, rock...; and through analogies and influences, he draws similarities between today's groups and those of the 50s and 60s. It is precisely from the music of the 20th century that we can learn about the most recent history of the world.

On this occasion, Llarena tells how the American protest song was born in the middle of the last century by the hand of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Through their songs it is possible to see how the world is changing. The music begins to socialize and politicize, with the goal to express the reality and denounce the wars and injustices that occur. Musical expression arises, since the message in music begins to be very important: it is no longer important only how it is sung, but also what is sung. A fundamental change in music and in the thinking of society is witnessed: music is not only sung, it is also shouted.

The rhythm rises and the feet begin to move to the music. The hands move timidly and the eyes close to let themselves be carried away. Folk, pop, rock... The music fills the silence and makes the noise disappear, it comes to develop the ear and the sensitivity of the participants. It comes to make known a side of the world, the one that is not only heard but also listened to, it comes to make life better understood.
