The University of Navarra and especially the University Clinic and the School of Medicine are the centers of reference letter of scientific publications originating in Navarra, according to a study carried out by the committee Superior Center for Scientific Research (CSIC).

The study covers the period between 1996 and 2001 and has been carried out by the Center for Scientific Information and Documentation of this organization in a work graduate "project to obtain indicators of scientific and technological production in Spain".

In the 900-page study, section is dedicated to the Autonomous Communities through the Science Citation Index, a North American database that gathers the publications of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world. It is the basis of reference letter for scientific and technological areas.

The work underlines the high growth rate of Navarra - 109% - in the years covered by the study and adds that "The University Clinic of Navarra and the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra are the two centers with the highest production, which alone justify the specialization in medical sciences in this community".

97% of the papers, in English

Indeed, 66.3% of the publications from Navarra have come from the two centers mentioned above, from the Schools of Pharmacy and Sciences and from the research center in Applied Pharmacobiology, also of the University of Navarra. Ninety-seven percent of the papers have been published in English.

Another noteworthy fact in the CSIC study is the contribution of the different institutional sectors: "65% from the University and 38% from Hospitals, a figure much higher than that of average". In the total number of publications, the works in partnership with other national centers account for 37.6% and in partnership international 25.8%.
