The University of Navarra is among the 100 most sustainable universities in the world, according to certificate the UI Greenmetric World University Ranking sustainability ranking in its 2019 edition.

IU Greenmetric, now in its ninth year, evaluates university infrastructure, energy and water use, climate change, waste management , transportation and university educational programs around sustainability. Since 2011 the ranking is a non-profit initiative of the University of Indonesia that has been progressively increasing in participants. This year more than 750 universities from around the world have been evaluated.

According to IU Greenmetric, the University of Navarra stands out in the waste management (42nd in the world), a category in which it scores 1,650 points out of a possible 1,800, thanks to its efforts, among others, to reduce the consumption of plastic and paper at campus and the management of organic and inorganic waste. The university also makes progress in the management of transportation in the campus, where it emphasizes the presence of emission-free vehicles, the effort to reduce the issue of cars in the campus and the policies of pedestrian access.

The University of Navarra has been improving since 2016 in the ranking and has risen from 249th in 2014 to 94th in this edition. The overall ranking is led by the Dutch Wagening University, followed by the University of Oxford and the University of California, Davis.
