"The term 'family mediation' should not be confused with good-naturedly separating". This was stated by the Bishop of San Sebastian, Msgr. José Ignacio Munilla, at the University of Navarra, on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the XII Martín de Azpilcueta International Symposium.. Marriage in the Church. The new judicial action' has been the main topic of the congress that has gathered from November 9 to 11 to 160 experts in the field of Canon Law.

Msgr. José Ignacio Munilla focused his exhibition on "Marriage and Family. The Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia of Pope Francis". He emphasized that "the Church is defending totally essential values for which our society is tremendously blind. There are still values, but there is a lack of an integrated vision of all of them". To explain this, he gave as an example the confrontation between the political models of Trump and Clinton, and said that each of them supports some values, but that neither program achieves a fullness of all of them, so a problem arises. He also reminded that the integral good is possible: "We cannot make the lesser evil our watchword".

In this sense, he stressed the importance of not falling into a narrow reading of the Gospel and reduce it to our sensibilities, although "today, to announce the Gospel of the family, to speak of faithful love, chastity and openness to life is not politically correct".

The Bishop of San Sebastian also recalled that it is important to help remedy the problems of marriage, although there are separations that are inevitable, since "it would be imprudent to force certain cohabitations," he said.

During the three days of the Symposium , the new canons for canonical marriage nullity processes, established by Pope Francis in the Motu Proprio Mitis Ludex, were analyzed. For this purpose, the presentations were structured in three approaches: "Marriage and family", "The process of nullity of marriage according to the Motu Proprio Mitis Ludex" and "The pastoral service to marriages in difficulty".
