"The search for the common good has to be the goal of journalism," said Monica Codina, professor at the School of Communication at the University of Navarra, at the congress "A Theoretical Reboot for Journalistic Ethics" held recently. The congress, co-organized by the University's CommunicationSchool and Western Michigan University (USA), brought together international experts to talk about journalistic ethics and how to make journalism help to achieve common goods.

The congress has approached journalistic ethics from different points of view: politics and the common good, journalistic internship in different cultural and political contexts, the challenges of storytelling and journalistic truth, the challenges facing the profession, etc. Understanding that "journalism continues to be a public service profession called to seek the goods of a community. It is an essential work that needs to be reinforced through good professional practices", they explain.

One of the main conclusions of conference has been the relevance of highlighting examples of virtuous journalists. In an international information context marked by disinformation, news evasion and political polarization, journalism can be an indispensable element to strengthen democracies and fulfill its social function. "In the end, the problems of journalism are part of a larger social problem," said Sandra Borden of Western Michigan University.

Another point highlighted at congress is the learning of journalistic ethics through examples. The communication of success stories in journalism can help to transmit reflective behaviors and establish virtuous practices in the performance of the profession.

The technological perspective has also been addressed. AI tools can help journalists adhere to ethical standards by providing real-time feedback on potential bias, ensuring the credibility of sources, and highlighting ethical considerations at essay. Technology used well has great potential to foster ethical behaviors in newsrooms and improve engagement and reflection, although the concept of "common good" needs to emerge from a community working in the same direction.

In conclusion, "despite the theoretical complexity of defining "truth", or the attempt by some political actors to create an alternative reality, the proper functioning of the rule of law and democracy requires that journalists report truthfully on the factual facts of public life
