The Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit at the University of Navarra offered a practical workshop on Wednesday, December 10, to staff researcher, doctoral students, and faculty of Tecnun, taught by University of Navarra professors Ignacio López-Goñi (microbiology) and Bienvenido León ( science communication).

Bienvenido León spoke about the instructions scientific communication, before offering attendees practical recommendations on how to communicate their research effectively and use artificial intelligence correctly.

In his brief exhibition ideas, the researcher that artificial intelligence tools can facilitate work , but can never replace the need for ongoing training in the task of disseminating science. León stressed that AI can be a valuable support in this work, which final of finding the balance between scientific accuracy and popular appeal."

Practical tips

Among his main recommendations, León highlighted the importance of correctly guiding the tool, choosing the most appropriate one for each task, and always performing a final check to detect possible errors. He also stressed the need to be aware of biases in artificial intelligence, such as those related to gender, age, or language, and to be transparent when showing when AI has been used.

The professor also discussed the ROCE method, proposed by Miren Agirregomezkorta, a former student of the University of Navarra School Communication. According to this method, it is important to assign a "role" to AI (e.g., researcher), define a cleargoal, goalprovide the necessary "context" to fill in task correctly, and establish the desired "style," both in language and in the way the result is presented.

Throughout the session, Bienvenido León and Ignacio López-Goñi led the work on a practical case study in which artificial intelligence helped synthesize ideas from research, adapting them to social media posts, a thread of tweets, and a video.
